Chitral is a beautiful town of Chitral District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is situated at the western bank of Chitral River. Chitral town is also the capital of Chitral District. Chitral District is located at the foot of Tirch Mir which is the highest peak of the Hindu Kush mountain range. The height of Tirch Mir peak is (7708 m) and the elevation of Chitral valley is (1100 m).
The easiest way to the Chitral valley is from southwest along the Kunar valley but this route is restricted due to Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Other routes are also available but they are through high mountain passes. During summer season the easiest route is Broghol pass that is (3798 m) high. Lowari pass is located to the south of Chitral and it leads to Peshawar. Chitral remains cut off from other areas almost six months a year due to heavy snow.
The climate of Chitral is dry and there is almost no rainfall during summer. Winter of Chitral is cold and temperature drops to – 10 C. Heavy rainfall can be recorded in winter and two feet is a normal snow level. But in some areas snowfall level can go up to 70 feet.

The common language of Chitral is Khowar. Being the National language Urdu is understood in Chitral town. One seat of MNA (National Assembly) and two seats of MPAs (Provincial Assembly) are elected from Chitral. The current Population of the town is above 10 Lac (One Million).
Polo and football are popular games in Chitral. Pakistani football player Muhammad Rasool belongs to Chitral town. During the year a number of sports festivals are held in Chitral town.
