Grand Jamia Mosque Bahria Town Lahore Pakistan

Grand Jamia Mosque is located in Bahria Town Lahore, Pakistan. Grand Jamia Mosque Lahore is the third largest mosque in Pakistan and the seventh largest mosque in the world. Grand Jamia Mosque Lahore is designed by Nayyar Ali Dada. Architectural designs of Badshahi Mosque, Wazir Khan Mosqu and Sheikh Zayed Mosque are combined together to get a new design for Grand Jamia Mosque Lahore. 

Grand Jamia Mosque Lahore was inaugurated on 6 October 2014 on Eid-ul-Adha. The total capacity of the mosque is 70,000 people. The main prayer hall alone can accommodate 25,000 people. If we include courtyard and corridor along with main prayer hall then about 70,000 people can say prayer together. The total construction cost of the mosque is over 4 billion rupees (approximately $39 million). 

The mosque has one large dome surrounded by twenty small domes. Heights of small domes change in a pattern to add up extra beauty to the mosque. The mosque has four minarets along the boundary of main prayer hall. The height of each minaret is 165 feet. About 4 million Multani handmade tiles are used to cover the outer surface of the mosque. 

Custom made high quality carpets are imported from Turkey to decorate the interior of the mosque. Fifty chandeliers in the main prayer hall add up extra beauty to the interior. These chandeliers are imported from Iran. The main architecture is entirely made up with local materials. 

The mosque reflects classic Indo-Islamic structural design with a modern blend. The base of entire structure of the mosque is 20 feet higher than ground. The mosque has 6 arch shaped main wooden doors. The central large dome is 40 feet high and 50 feet wide and is surrounded by twenty small domes. 

Each higher minaret has 4 arch shaped extensively decorated wooden doors at its base. The rooftop of each minaret is copula shaped canopy. Each minaret has beautiful balconies made from high quality “Sheesham” wood. The main courtyard of the mosque has Persian style garden layout common in various Indo-Pak mosques. The garden layout is divided into four parts with four walkways. The courtyard has a beautiful water fountain in the center.
