Saif ul Malook Lake is a famous Pakistani lake located in Mansehra district Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Saif ul Malook lake is a foumout tourist spot in Pakistan. Lake Saif ul Malook is elevated at 10,578 feet above the sea level. It is one of the highest lakes in Pakistan. It is located about eight kilometers to the north of Naran town in the northern part of Kaghan Valley. 

The highest peak of Kaghan Valley Malika Parbat is located near the Lake Saif ul Malook. The Malika Parbat adds up charming scenery to the lake. The lake provides water to Kunhar River. Summer season is the best time to visit the lake, because in winter it can’t be accessed easily due to extreme weather and snow fall. Many people visit the lake in summer season every year. 

Various controversies are there about the depth of Saif ul Malook. Some local people of the area say the lake is 1 km deep, but there is no authentic source for the exact depth of the lake. According to a recent survey conducted on all alpine lakes in Northern areas of Pakistan Saif ul Malook is 50 feet deep.

Saif ul Malook Lake in Winter

The Kaghan Valley is formed in Pleistocene Period when the whole area was covered with ice. The glacial moraines blocked the water of stream passing through the valley resulted into a beautiful lake. Due to rise in temperature the melting glaciers collected water into the lake. 

Lake Saif ul Malook is a habitat for various sea plants and animals. Brown trout up to the weight of about 7 kg are found in the lake. The lake holds many species of blue-green algae. Various species of vascular plant are also found in the area, Asteraceae is found in much excess. 

Saif ul Malook Fairy Tale 

Mian Muhammad Bakhsh wrote a famous fairy tale about the lake called Saif-ul-Malook. This tale tells the story of Shahzada Saif ul Malook the prince of Persia. Shahzada Saif-ul-Malook fell in love a fairy princess Shahzadi Badri Jamala at the lake.
