Shab Bhar Mosque Lahore Built in One Night

The Shab Bhar Mosque is located near the Shah Alami (Shahalmi) market in Lahore Pakistan. Shab Bhar is an Urdu word and it means overnight, so the mosque may be called overnight mosque. The Shab Bhar Mosque was built in 1917 during the British rule in subcontinent. The total area of mosque is 820 square feet approx. 

The mosque is the result of a dispute between Muslims and Hindus regarding the ownership of a vacant 3 marla site. The dispute arose when a Muslim offered his prayer at a vacant site because Hindus were not happy by this act. After that both Muslims and Hindus wanted to build up their religious structure at the vacant site. 

Muslims and Hindus submitted the dispute to the British colonial authorities. The British authorities decided to send a judge at the site to solve the dispute. At that time British authorities had pledged not to disturb any religious site. So a Muslim lawyer advised the Muslim community to construct a mosque at the disputed site before the judge arrived so the ownership of the site would be declared in their favour. 

The Muslim community decided to gather at the site under the leadership of a local wrestler Gama Pehalwan after the Isha prayer to construct the mosque. Muslim volunteers gathered at the site after Isha prayer and constructed the mosque overnight by the Fajr prayer. The judge then declared the ownership of the site in favour of the Muslims.
